Associations are encouraging people living and working in Washington, D.C., to step outdoors this week with two events targeted at the public.
The National Retail Association is hosting a public event of shopping, food and live music called Retail's Night Out tonight, May 6, at the Park at CityCenterDC, 11th Street and New York Avenue in Washington, D.C.
The event—from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.—is the first of its kind for the $44 million-revenue NRF, and coincides with National Small Business Week. Attendees will mingle among CityCenterDC luxury shops such as Kate Spade, pop-up tents representing smaller retailers and food trucks.
Top association executives, members of Congress and their staff, D.C. City Council members and others have been invited to a VIP reception from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at NRF's new headquarters at 1101 New York Avenue, suite 1200.
In event of rain, the event will be held tomorrow night.
On Friday, dozens of World War II-era aircraft will fly above the National Mall as part of the Arsenal of Democracy Flyover, starting at 12:10 p.m. The event will run about 40 minutes.
Arsenal of Democracy is sponsored by several aviation businesses and associations, including Airlines for America and the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association. Pete Bunce, CEO of the General Aviation Manufacturers Association, and John Cudahy, CEO of the International Council of Air Shows, are members of the flyover's board of directors.
Reagan National Airport will be closed to commercial traffic from noon to 1 p.m. Friday to accommodate the flyover. Many of the planes featured in the event will be on display at the National Air and Space Museum's Steven F. Udvar-Hazy facility in Chantilly, Va., on Saturday.
More information about the flyover is available at ww2flyover.org.
